There is always some kind of junk lying about the house that you do not want to get rid of. You keep telling yourself that it would be something that might come in handy at a later date.

You also think that you would be able to make use of these bits and pieces when you are going to build a shed, either for garden implements or to store a piece of equipment like a portable generator or UPS.

These are various reasons why a person would like to have storage sheds that are structures that are built away from the house.

If every one of us knew how to build a storage shed, life would become a lot easier as we would be able to put away all the unwanted stuff into a place that was out of sight and hence out of mind too.

You need to listen to this word of caution before you put all that junk into the storage shed that you are thinking of building.

When you put away something very carefully, there are chances that you will not be able to locate them when you are actually looking for them.

This is exactly what happened to my uncle who knew how to build a storage shed. He put his garden shears away very carefully.

He cleaned it and made sure that it was free of rust and dust. He then oiled it well, wrapped it in some soft cloth and put it into a box that he placed inside his shed. The only thing that he forgot to do was to name the box into which he had placed the shears.

There was a reason why he had done this. He had this neighbor who was proving to be a pain in the lowest part of the spinal cord.

He thought that if he were to name the box, the person would walk into the shed, when he was away and ‘borrow’ the garden shears without any intention of returning the same.

You see, this neighbor did not know how to build a storage shed and had no intentions whatsoever of learning how to build one. He would keep borrowing stuff and keep things back at his home.

He would never return what he borrowed. The sad part was that my uncle forgot the place he had kept these shears in. The net result was that he could not lay his hands on the equipment when he needed it the most.

Therefore it is important for a person to know how to build a storage shed as well as think of the ways in which things will be stored in the shed.

There should be shelves and cupboards with ample space and racks for storing stuff, in order to avoid confusion while locating equipment.
